God of War II Review

God of War IIWhen God of War entered our PlayStation 2’s the first time in 2005, it was an experience unlike any other. Kratos, a fallen spartan, gave himself unto the God of war, Ares, so he may survive. From there, players were thrust into pure action and melee along with one of the most intense storylines ever created. Though the original may have been plagued by some slight issues (Freezing disc after a certain point in the game, regardless of condition or unit), it turned out to be one of the greatest games ever produced and even took Game of the Year awards among some publications.

Sony Computer Entertainment Studios in Santa Monica are back for Round 2. The last time we left off, we saw Kratos claim the throne of the God of War. His adventure, however, was far from over. He angered his fellow gods with his wanton destruction.

God of War II makes extensive usage of Greek Mythology. From the sights you will see to the characters whom you will encounter, the larger than life aspect of God of War II only adds to the awe with which you will be inspired by during game play.

Post E3 2007: Sony, Nintendo’s comin’ for you!

Sales of Nintendo’s Wii could top that of the PlayStation 2, making it the biggest hit in the industry’s history, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata said on Thursday.

Nintendo Co. Ltd. sped past Sony Corp. in market capitalization last month to become one of the 10 most valuable companies in Japan. Iwata, in an interview, also played down the threat to Nintendo’s business of a price cut in Sony’s PlayStation 3 and the introduction of a thinner PlayStation Portable.

The Wii has outsold Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PlayStation 3 monthly since its November launch, helped by its relatively affordable $250 price tag and a motion-sensing controller that can be swung like a bat, for instance. Instead of offering lifelike graphics to appeal to hard-core gamers, Nintendo has appealed to an audience including older individuals who may not have had a previous experience with video games in their current incarnation, and the elderly with innovative but easy-to-play games.

“Sony’s PS2 sales of 100 million units is an extraordinary number that our home game console business has not achieved,” Iwata said. “But if we can make our bid to expand the gaming population a continued success, we could exceed that.”

Metal Gear Solid 3 Servers Shutting Down

According to the official Konami MGS3: Subsistence support site, they will be shutting down the dedicated servers for the PS2 version of Metal Gear Online on April 2, 2007. This gives eager games who still have yet to take their skills online a little over a month to play.

“Konami sincerely thanks all of the Subsistence online community for their dedication to the game and support of the Metal Gear Solid series.”

Whether it was due to the serious lack of players logging on daily or Konami wishes to restructure for futures games, the servers are indeed shutting down. Konami still encourages users to try out its Metal Gear Portable Ops for the PSP which will continue to have functioning Metal Gear Online.

A petition was later started post this announcement with the purpose of convincing Konami to leave the servers online, however the 1800 signatures (as of press time) is severely short of the hoped goal of 100,000 signatures, further stamping the lack of support for Metal Gear Online on the PlayStation 2.
