Manhunt 2 is practically homeless right now. That would be due to Sony and Nintendo’s licensing policies restricting the allowance of games rated as Adults Only. Such leaves Take Two Interactive with very limited options.
Take Two’s options are effectively as follows:
Appeal to the Entertainment Software Ratings Board
Of course this is always an option, but even if the rating did get managed to be cut down from Adults Only to Mature, that still leaves out the possibility of Sales within the UK and Ireland. However, it would lift the licensing restrictions imposed by Nintendo and Sony which are barring Take Two from releasing Manhunt 2 on those platforms.
Tone down the games content
This second move could cost Take Two millions, in addition to pushing back the release date. However, it would lower the rating to M and lift the restrictions imposed by the UK and Ireland, that is, given that Step One doesn’t go ahead and those in the UK just begin to suddenly find an interest in imports.
Option Three: Go PC
This option will also cost Take Two money to port Manhunt 2 to the PC, however, it would directly bypass the licensing restrictions imposed by console manufacturers. However, it would still face a war with retail sales and with retailers whom would be willing to carry the title as many major retailers (i.e. Target, Wal-Mart, and Best Buy) outright refuse to carry titles rated Adults Only.
